"Don't hurt Ak'kulula! Ak'kulula good boy! Ak'kulula listen and obey! Yes yes! Don't hurt Ak'kulula!"

The boy's face and skin are streaked with dirt. His arms, legs and body are covered in a disgusting mix of mud and blood, with twigs and leaves stuck to him everywhere. His hair, very short and curly like everyone else who lives in this area who isn't a chieftain or nobility, is a crusty mess of hair, dried mud and blood. Curled up into a whimpering and blubbering ball, the boy looks more beast than man.

Amid various items thrown at him - half-eaten fruit, crockery, and other much less pleasant things, amid kicks, jeers, and ridiculing laughter from his captors, the boy turns to look at Malim in wide-eyed terror.

"Don't hurt Ak'kulula! Poor Ak'kulula tell all, show all! Ak'kulula good boy! No give trouble!"

The terrified lad scrambles out of his corner to hide under a table. "Great Prince Kubluu...*unintelligible mumbling*...from great powerful kingdom! *more unintelligible mumbling*...Kgosi Olmar...cousin with!"

He stares into space, as if reliving the recent horrific scenes again. "Brave fight...Mother of Moons...kill Kgosi! Prince protect body...Prince killed too!"

He breaks down into a fit of sobbing before continuing. "I Ak'kulula. Follow Great Prince Kubluu. I try help..."

"Ak'kulula run...and run...and run! Bring Prince last message to Kgosigadi..."

Crawling out, he makes a quick grab for the ebony knobkerrie and shield. He quickly lays it at Malim's feet, nodding and gesturing for the Chieftain to see for himself. "Kgosi knife ...Prince shield... Ak'kulula bring to Kgosigadi...Ak'kulula good boy...yes..."

Finished, Ak'kulula quickly withdraws back under the table, seemingly terrified of Malim and his men. Beneath all the foolery however, the young Mystic calmly observes the men and their leader Malim Oche. He counts their number, noting those who looked particularly alert and serious. He takes quick glances at the moot hall discreetly, noting any weapons and armament.

Malim rubbed his head, " Stop throwing things. The boy is broken."

" How did one of Olmars relatives get here this quickly? Happenstance or something else? I guess it doesn't really matter if they are both dead......."

He called a large heavily scarred man over, " Putu. What should I do about Ngela? She would make a fine wife....or similar."

" Malim, she may not be so willing. And she has Olmars child, if the ghost-witch has not already killed it....they may cause problems in the future."

Malim looked a little crestfallen, " This is much harder than it looks.....very well, go fetch Ngela. It will be better for her to hear about Olmar from a friendly face. And someone get that boy cleaned up....he might make a decent fool to entertain visitors when market season comes around."

While they waited for the men to bring Ngela a servant approached Ak'kulula with a bowl of water and a cloth and attempted to clean his face while Malim watched impassively.

The lad watches the servant approach with terrified eyes. The woman appears harmless though, and he allows her to come close and apply the soaking cloth to his grime-covered face. The lad stares at the woman in silence as she rubs the filth away from his face.

"Ak'kulula...hurt...pain..." Ak'kulula turns around and gestures with his right hand. A moist bloody splotch covers an area on his left upper back near his neck, that upon wiped clean, reveals a bleeding wound of certain depth. He looks up at the servant woman with expectant eyes.

As the nervous woman attended to his injury, cooing softly, Ngela was brought into the room by the four men, she carried her child with her and the old woman was by her side looking quite fierce.

" What is the meaning of this Malim?", Ngela said fiercely.

" I am afraid I have bad news for you Kgo.....ah, Ngela. The mighty Olmar has fallen in battle against the Mother of Moons, I see your child breathes.....perhaps he gave his life so she would live?"

Ngela clutched at her neck and dropped gently to her knees, turning her head and squeezing her eyes tightly shut....as her watering eyes opened they focused for the briefest of seconds on Ak'kulula...before she rose back to her feet and faced Malim with a steady gaze.

" I must go into mourning and seclusion....you will respect our ways."

" Whatever....a month is it? Fine."

Ngela took her leave with her child and nurse/cook.

Ak'kulula was left where he crouched by the servant and she departed the room.

Malim seemed to go into a funk of some sort and slouched on the chieftains stool like a sulking child, " This is boring. Bring wine. We will drink to the fine death of Olmar and hurry him on his way to the land of ghosts."

Three of the mercenaries left and returned a few minutes later with clay jugs and skins of wine they handed them about to their companions and waited for Malim to give permission to drink. When he had done so they began to sing and drink and feast for some time.....

Two of the men were given a cup of palm wine each then sent out, with deep frowns, to send the gate guards back for their share. This went on until all the guard had changed and none of the men present save Malim were the same as had brought Ak'kulula in and teased him so.

Indeed it seemed that his presence had been entirely forgotten.....

OOC: About 1.5 hours later now.

The terrified boy appears to calm down alittle from the servant woman's gentle ministrations. After she leaves however, he retreats back to the corner in the room and sits there quietly hugging his knees to his thin chest, making himself as small and inconspicuous as possible. Anyone coming or passing nearby brings up again the terrified haunted look to his brown eyes as the lad draws back even more into the corner.

With his heart fully assured in the Great Spirit's guidance and his mind fully in control, Ak'kulula is filled with a deep sense of calm inside. He keeps up the outward display with ease, while his senses and mind focuses on the situation. His careful observation progresses steadily from simple numbers and superficial information, to deeper insights and significance...

OOC:
1. Ak'kulula sees 12 men in total with Malim. Correct GM? Let me correctly that...Aku sees 12 different faces in total who are with Malim's group. Is that right?
2. What are their equipment/armaments like?
3. Deeper observation of the men reveals? (Morale, skill, weaknesses, limps, deformations, handicaps, particular strengths, etc.)
4. Deeper observation of Malim himself reveals? (Same as above)
5. How long to sundown and complete darkness?
6. Are the men and Malim anywhere near to being drunk and impaired or even useless in a confrontation?

2. What are their equipment/armaments like? Knobkerrie, machete and spear. Some small shields and iron and leather bindings on the older ones.
3. Deeper observation of the men reveals? (Morale, skill, weaknesses, limps, deformations, handicaps, particular strengths, etc.) Good health, professional soldiers, fairly bored.
4. Deeper observation of Malim himself reveals? (Same as above) Decent Int Roll ( 5) gives you: Has possibly acted without realising full ramifications but wont back out now, young, strong...worried...
5. How long to sundown and complete darkness? The sun is just down, stars and moon won't give complete darkness but its getting dark quick.
6. Are the men and Malim anywhere near to being drunk and impaired or even useless in a confrontation? Impaired, some are certainly...useless, not likely. Malim has probably drunk more than the rest though, and the younger mercs more than the older ones.

Ak'kulula keeps up his act carefully, playing his role of traumatized young boy with gusto and abandon, who has fallen asleep in exhaustion. He patiently bides his time and waits until it's late into the night when the village goes dark and everyone has gone to bed (10pm? 11pm?). And he waits another couple hours after that for everyone to enter into deep sleep (12am? 1am?).

Opening his eyes cautiously, Ak'kulula surveys the room he is in.

OOC:
1. Is Malim sleeping here?
2. How many men with him in the room? All asleep?
3. How many asleep in various states of drunkenness? How many still alert and sleeping normally?
4. How's Malim's state himself?

If there's no one awake in the upper room with him, Ak'kulula gets up quietly and sneaks downstairs to survey the main hall.

OOC:
1. How many men here? How many sleeping?
2. How many asleep in various states of drunkenness? How many still alert and sleeping normally?
3. Guards outside the main hall? Guards near the main hall?
How's their level of alertness?

As Ak'kulula moves one of the older mercenaries opens one eye lazily, it focuses on Ak'kulula for a moment then closes.

He creeps carefully down the slotted ramp to the ground floor....

Ak'kulula freezes for a moment while the older mercenary opens his eye and fixes on himself. Heart pounding, he draws on his mental training and forces himself to calm down. He waits patiently until the man had closed his eye and resumed his mild snoring, signifying his return to Dreamland.

Creeping down the wooden ladder functioning like a crude stairway, he surveys the situation downstairs with broad sweeps of his almond brown eyes.

It's now or never. May He who creates and sustains all things by His power, look with favor upon our efforts this night.

The diminutive lad crawls halfways up the ladder and chances a swift sudden peek about the upper room, making sure none of the men are awake. He then steals down to the main hall, careful to keep in the shadows that are plentiful in the darkened building.

Picking up a machete or any weapon left carelessly about, Ak'kulula makes his way, quiet as a stalking panther, to a window at the back of the hall furthest from the guards. Dropping his stolen weapon outside in the soft wet grass, he climbs out quietly, landing in a crouch just under the window.

His eyes almost useless in the near complete darkness, Ak'kulula focuses his senses and sends them forth into the night, straining to detect any hint or sign that his escape had been noticed. Sensing nothing, he picks up the weapon and steals into the night, heading for the nearest clump of trees and undergrowth he had seen in the day.

Once there, the lad leaps up and begins climbing up the sturdiest tree, fully utilizing his heritage as one of the Great Apes of the jungle. Near the top of the tree, the lad cups his hand over his mouth and proceeds to imitate the call of the Barking Owl...

"Wowoooowoooowoooo! Wowoooowoooowoooo! Wowoooowoooowoooo!"

He waits for several seconds and then makes the calls again, careful to keep the rhythm, timbre, and volume close to his 1st set of calls.

"Wowoooowoooowoooo! Wowoooowoooowoooo! Wowoooowoooowoooo!"

Having given the agreed signal to his Companions, Ak'kulula grips his weapon and crouches comfortably in the tree to await the start of the attack. He keeps a close careful watch on the village main hall, and especially on the 2 guards standing sentry at the front entrance.

OOC:
