"What makes you think this way? I think this person was incomplete, lacking legs and the power of speech. Can we convey the gift of language? Perhaps then he will have riddles to sing to us?"

At the Prince's angry outburst, Ak'kulula clasps his hands together, bows and steps back in a display of submission.

"I do value your advice. However I believe that all living things have a heart and the mind to comprehend. Perhaps if it cannot speak then maybe it can write? I hope to communicate with it"

Wonder what Mungodan script Kuublu knows? He will try to scratch a greeting on the ground or wall...

Kuublu was never as good at letters as his siblings but he managed to scratch out a semblance of words in Nbiri script, which he figured was the most likely known hereabouts, the lion-statues head followed his movements but it did not return the gesture.

Chiemeka watches Kuublu scratching out his message a speaks quietly to Ak:

"The Prince is determined to communicate with this being, but if his efforts come to naught, we can experiment with the staff."

Kuublu spends time trying to determine its degree of intelligence. If it cannot respond with acknowledgements or try to communicate with Kuublu in return Kuublu will resign himself in frustration and tell the others he thinks it only has the intelligence of a wild beast. This might take 10 minutes for Kuublu to psychoanalyze it. If its just angry and aggressive, he'll back off and wonder whether they can build a siege engine with the available materials...

After some time the group determines that if there is a guiding intelligence to the statue it is decidedly less than an actual lion would have, Chiemeka and Ak'kulula acknowledges the wisdom of this as an animal mind would go quickly insane down here trapped in the dark unable to move for eternity...it is likely no smarter than a fly....or possibly a fish...

Kuublu explains to the others that he was mistaken, but he wanted to preserve life and its pitiful state, trapped in this location with nothing but a corridor to see must be a form of hell. He hopes that there is a way to end its misery. Maybe if he was familiar with hydraulic engineering he could somehow drown it....

Ak'kulula nods at Kubluu's explanation. "A wise and most noble intention your Highness." He looks again at the statue, spinning this way and that with its clawed paws, producing the perpetual grinding sound of stone rubbing against stone. Its eyes are...well grey stone...with not the slightest sign of intelligence nor even consciousness in them.

The Mystic turns and nods at Chiemeka. "Perhaps it is time to try other means Revered Sir..."

Chiemeka removes the staff from his pack.

"I do not know how to use the staff. Perhaps it is a matter of willing it to activate? Nor do I know which end might prove most useful. Perhaps the cold, wet end might wash away the statue, as mighty rivers wash away the stone over which they travel? Although such an amount of water might be enough to drown us all..."
