The funeral pyre burns and a small fire is made a little way off for cooking.

Watches are set but other than some more of the heavy crashing about in the upper foliage of the giant tree and some leopard coughs from some distance away, nothing disturbs the companions rest except the images of Urukas life force being forcibly ripped from his body.

The sun takes some time to creep over the high walls....

Having travelling alone in the forest for days and living on iron rations and beasts killed by his bone crusher, Ikanso is intrigued and excited to smell smoke. Following the scent, he approaches the campfire, swinging egun-egun to scare a leopard off

Kuublu sings his low song of remembrance... Suddenly he stops. His hands reach out for his Assegai upon seeing the apparition..... No.... this one walks awkwardly through the jungle and can't be a spirit of his former comrade.... Kuublu declines to raise arms on the stranger for now....

Ikanso approaches the figure before him and raises his hands in greeting.

“Hail traveler! I am Ikanso. What brings you to such a forsaken place? My parents recently left me and I am now seeking out some rumors of a ruined temple which I hear contains much darkness! I intend to cleanse them with the help of egun-egun as tribute to my parents’ memories,” Ikanso declares, tapping the morning star strapped to his belt

"You come upon us during sad times. I have lost a dear comrade, Uruka, none who have came before will match him in bravery, nor of later generations..."

Kuublu's voice drifts away as he chokes up....

"A great friend who stayed with me against the odds, a master of the medical arts, skilled in arms and also wise in good medicine. We encountered a spirit who used foul sorcery. We had no time to save him."

"Tell us, what is your purpose in coming to these wild lands?"

The slow Chastu is roused by the foolishness unfurling before him. "We lose our friend, yet as soon we have seen him on his way, this man comes before us, and we welcome him to our cause with open arms. I say that he may prove to be a true companion, but perhaps we test him first.
