Just a thought. I love those samurai movies that depict some of the great abilities like being able to take on multiple combatants. I think there are ideas that don't look right in an 'Excalibur remake', but I don't see how some 'abilities' need to be unique to the far east. How about the 'zanshin/awareness' skill where a knight has no 90 degrees front facing but able to fight against multiple opponents and able to divide his DEFENCE against anything in a 360 degrees angle. Still has to split DEFENCE against multiple opponent, but being able to apply your full DEFENCE to an attacker in the rear shouldn't be unique to yamatese knights.

I am sure I'll have other ideas... Those far eastern knights also had some amazing kiai techniques... or should we create a whole new set of skills of the almighty for yamatese and khitan knights?

Some .. demonstration of kiai techniques, pacifiying an army so they can't advance... as depicted in san kuo... I'm sure I can think of others. General Kwan seemed to paralyze enemy generals with a shout. Some of this is covered in palladium ninjas and superspies which is a good read if you can find a copy....

Also some of the stuff in way of the tiger gamebooks....

Interesting that you note Ninjas & Superspies as a potential source for inspiration. I have an old copy that I haven't looked at in years, but I think I'll have to pull it off the old gaming shelf in the basement and see what I can glean from it. Thanks! ;)

Hm.. also that sword throwing skill which is mentioned in bloodsword book 4. I think the wakizashi was thrown by some eastern duellists like musashi miyamoto. I'm sure Knights in the west might come up with similar ideas according to needs. Also whats to stop them developing sword disarm techniques with bare hands? I think Lancelot did something in the 81' excalibur movie in neutralizing an armed opponent.

Best sword throw is the one from Ladyhawke.

Heh - I recall having a version of that sword in my early DW campaigns - it was called the 'Skysword' (or was it 'Skyblade' - I can't quite recall), and the projectile blades were magically launched. They needed to be recovered and re-attached though, and it took a while for each blade to 'recharge' before it could be fired again.

Haha. I think every adolescent roleplaying GM must have come up with at least one sword like that. I know I did. Growing up with films like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfpHtj9uxqg didn't help.

Cheers,
