As I've mentioned before I run regular Dragon Warriors scenarios at Melbourne gaming conventions.
Most of these form part of a series called The Springdale Chronicles. Part of the backstory of the (now-eighth rank) characters in that series is that they are meant to be a party that went through all the adventures in Books 1-6 of the original Dragon Warriors books (or the reprinted versions). This means a couple of the Knights have Swords of Vallandar, and are destined to respond when Vallandar returns - and the year is now AS999... one of the characters is now married to Baron Aldred's daughter, and is his acknowledged heir as well.
Anyway, we're moving towards the endgame of this convention campaign, and the adventure I most recently ran at Conquest involved beginning to set things up for some later events. As part of that, the characters found a prophecy that had been hidden by Mathor and left for them to find.
So I had to try and write a poem and I'm reasonably proud of it, so I thought I'd share it here:
When this image is once again seen When statues are made of the King and his Queen Look not to crowned harpy, wolf, skulls, or green adder Or the gallows and rods, or the sacred ladder None of them are to blame, instead look to the sky Stars of amber, of emerald, of chalcedony Stars of sapphire, of ruby entwine and entwist Their wickedness aided by a star amethyst Doomsday is coming – but can be prevented The first step is fossilisation circumvented Find the circlet of gold and once again place On the head of the true King his emblem of grace And you shall restore more than just that one King But the chance that another may return as songs sing Hide most of this prophecy, but leave to the valorous Rex quondam, and then again, Rexque Futurus
What follows is my words, above is my augury The last of my life before passing to glory These words are the wisdom and true divination Of Mathor, Court Wizard of Vallandar’s nation.
Deciphering this required a knowledge of the heraldry of Albion (and Sir Roderick of Pellard, the King's Herald (described in Friends or Foes was available to help answer any necessary questions in that regard, and also a bit of other Legend specific knowledge...
