In a week, I'm going to run Dragon Warriors for a group new to the system, on a local "mini-con" (named Open RPG Day). And I'm planning to do something that's new for me, by running a pre-published adventure
!
(Yeah, shocking, I know).
I don't know most of the people that are going to be playing, but can more or less bet that most of them are going to be new to Legend in general (unless they've played Bloodsword, the odds of anyone having read Dragon Warriors are so close to 0 I'm not even counting). So, they're going to be not really familiar with the setting.
I know two players who have requested joining my game, specifically. One of them has played through Bloodsword books, but it was almost a decade ago, while the other one is completely new to the setting and the system. The system part isn't a problem, I'm going to provide pregenerated characters anyway (several Knights, a Barbarian, an Assassin, a Warlock, a couple Knaves, a Thane, a Priest, and a Hunter...and I might scratch out the Assassin and/or the Warlock). All in all, they're a nice retinue for a couple knight errants. I'll send them in on 2nd or 3rd rank.
That said, I'm wondering...how would you introduce new people to the setting? And they're going to need getting into it if they want to even survive.
Normally, I run longer campaigns, so it's not an issue. In this case, I'm going to need to introduce the players to the setting, and send them deal with an investigation right away.
So, how would you introduce new people, apart from copying the text from Serpent King's page, and reading it out loud before the game
?
