That's pretty clever. I wonder if you could carry a mouse or spider with you and use them to trigger the rune.
Kyle you are a genius! You just gave me an idea! We could create
spellbombs with
Rune.
1. Cast/inscribe
Rune onto an exposed area on an animal (eg: mouse or homing pigeon, etc), then find a way to have the animal run towards the target. Reaching within 3m, the spell will activate.
The tricky part is where to inscribe. Has to be an exposed area on the animal such that its various body parts will have little or no chance of coming into line of sight with, while still exposed to incoming beings/targets. Head or back would be best I think.
We could combine this with
Wolfcall to get a wolf ally that will carry the spell to any target the Sorcerer indicates.
Combine this with
Astral Spell for range boost, pinpoint precision, and greater hilarious effect.
2. Cast
Rune onto a missile/projectile, eg: dart, arrow, stone, then fire it at the target/targets.
Classic battlefield example: cast
Rune then
Nova onto a catapult shot, which is then fired into the midst of enemy forces. A few of these will be enough to clear out the courtyard, frontgate chokepoints, or thin out an assault wave. Or take out the Commander together with his lieutenants and his entire company of bodyguards.
Replace
Nova with:
-
Firestorm for a fiery effect and to set nearby things on fire,
-
Transfix or
Burden or
Raise Fog for battlefield disruption.
-
Hecatomb for maximum killcount. Note the backlash effect though.
And for utter chaos among the enemy, followup the
Rune/Nova or
Rune/Firestorm or
Rune/Hecatomb with
Rune/Reanimate the Dead. After being burnt or rayed by magical energy, and then finding their dead comrades rising as Zombies to attack them...that should really put the fear of the Sorcerer into the enemy army. If this can be done at a few strategic and highly visible spots within the enemy formations, I would be surprised if a complete rout doesn't occur.
