I'm tentatively excited.

New editions of old favourites have not gone well for me at all this year so I'm a little gun-shy. :)

Not sure I got the time to read up, I get so much news spam I have to clear every week and new assignments from friends.

Gee, wonder what it'll be like playing by forum, need to get up to speed with the new system. Perhaps a system that encourages more fighters.

Tentatively excited is about right. These days, I treat any new edition of an old favorite as an optional extra, not a must-have upgrade. That said, almost anything Dave Morris does is worth checking out.

I've liked some of the ideas he's posted about the project but, as with everyone else, with reservations. It will be interesting to see what the final version is like.
(I suspect I may end up adopting bits that I like and ignoring others. Ahem.) :?

That's what I tend to do. I'll be more interested in it for the flavour than the rules - I have a set of rules that suitably inform the style of play with which I'm comfortable and enjoy so am unlikely to do much to those, but you can never get too much Legend.

Although I remain open to the idea of being so wildly blown away by this second edition that I immediately bin everything I have ever done for the first edition and devote the remainder of my years atoning for my humble inadequacy.

At the very least, there's likely need for me to clear a new glade in the Cobwebbed Forest :).

Yes, it's the lore and flavour that interests me. I like my polyhedral dice! I doubt I would have been as interested in a 2d6 based game when I was 10 :)

But more background on Legend... that can be easily adapted to any rules system.

And more grit... even better.

Screw the game mechnics. We can work a d2 system into it, and it'll be a universal game that'll go viral amongst primitives with access to coins!!!

!?!?!?what? No coins?!?!?!

As a complete aside, the Skyfall gamebook series used coin-tosses as its mechanism for resolving challenges (mostly combat), but it was clumsy and slow compared to just rolling dice and counting odds/evens.

I definitely need more time to read-through my gamebooks - I used to get so much out of them as a kid. I wonder if there's mileage in writing a gamebook for the eponymous DW scenario, King under the Forest?
