"Hold! Malim! Hang in there! If it were your leg I could resolve this if I had an… actually, never mind"

Kuublu helps Malim onto a donkey and tries to get him to the nearest village, the nearby village.

Malim looks pale. His breathing becomes increasingly difficult, and his body begins to show signs of shutdown. Ak'kulula recognizes all these to be unmistakeable signs indicating the rapid spread of a deadly venom in the injured man.

Nodding at Kubluu, the boy dashes off in the direction of some huts they had caught sight of earlier. To the 1st adult man or woman he meets, he states the situation - that a man poisoned by serpent bite lies dying near the village - and asks for help urgently. His tone is urgent but calm, and his words are clear. And he hopes the villagers(s) understand Wagandan...

As Kuublu leads the donkey towards the village, Chimeka walks alongside, doing everything he can to keep Malim calm and comfortable

A group of villagers, dusty from fieldwork, respond to Ak'kululas cry...they run out and meet Kuublu and the others on the road and assist Malim off of the donkey.

The villagers help you to carry Malim to the grain hall, where they cluster round as he is dumped unceremoniously onto a long table. He is delirious and his entire body is rigid up. The local healer, Old Beli, is brought at a run: she takes one look at the victim and begins mixing a draught of clay and herbs.

She forced the liquid into Malims mouth and began striking him with a hard wooden paddle. “Stone snake. Your friend will be fine by sunset tommorow,” she says, “but he’ll be in no state to travel for a week, maybe two.”

She grabbed two boys and ordered one to keep beating the large muscle groups with the paddle and began preparing more of the draught...

" He will be sore....very sore from his limbs being rigid and from the blows...but he will live.."

As the villagers disperse back to their work, a man in colourful woven robes approaches and introduces himself as Etwa, the priest of Xbri village. He comiserates over Malims injury, and suggests that you talk to Ado, a crippled man who lives in the village, about a place to stay for the next few nights. “As for the days, you could help everyone bring in the harvest,” he says thoughtfully, “or if such peasant work is beneath you, I may be able to
occupy your time more fruitfully. Come and see me this evening, once you’re settled, and we will talk over some wine.”

Kuublu praises the villagers for their quick help. He'll joke with Malim and suggest that he might get better if we keep up the beatings. Kuublu swallows at the suggestion of doing peasant work and suggests that he takes in details on the status of the village from Etwa.

The incident of Malim's near-fatal poisoning via a snake bite leaves a deep impression on Ak'kulula's mind. Growing up amongst the Great Apes in the jungle has imparted a healthy respect and wonder for the mind-boggling mystery and power of the jungle. And yet the boy is once again confronted with the reality that he knows so very little of the nature and ecology of the environment in which he lives.

He resolves to begin remedying this fault. For now however, he will follow along to meet the village priest when Kubluu goes.

OOC - Ak'kulula begins studying plants, animals and insects. He notes their ecology, life cycle patterns, habitat, temperament, etc.

@GM - perhaps this could become a skill after some investment and study?

Chiemeka has taken on all sorts of menial work in his travels, so is quite willing to pitch in with the harvest (although his low strength may mean he is unable to help with much in the way of heavy lifting...)

OOC: Sure.

Pulgil and Chiemeka do their best to assist with the field work but it is garming of a type they are not familiar with back home so there are sore muscles and cut hands by the end of the day.

Kuublu sends Ak' off to speak with the old cripple Ado and the old man offers them boarding for 1 pound of meat per night or other goods of similar value. He is quite garrulous and wants to speak longer but Ak' has to hurry back to Kuublu.

Kuublu is shown around the village by Etwa who it seems is nominally a devotee of one of the great serpents or possibly a pair of great water serpents...Kuublu has never been overly good at religion. Kuublu has heard of similar gods and spirits before in places such as Dzimba Woye and settlements along the Serpentsblood river.

Kuublu is not prepared to sacrifice one of his Donkeys for lodgings, at least not at this time. He'll give the Ado his carpet and hopes that will suffice for now.
