To Sten:

The bushes part slightly, but all you can see is a pair of wide eyes, peeping at you. You think that either whatever is in the bushes is crouching, or about half your size.

Calder lowers his weapons, seeing the pair of eyes and the diminutive figure.

“Hail, man in the bushes, please show yourself. We won’t harm you if you are friendly.”

The bushes part slightly and you see the face of a small child, who you reckon to be but five summers old or so.

The child is of indeterminate gender, what you take away from this first impression is that it is sniveling, slightly grubby and quite small.

Laila relaxed slightly but scanned the road....they were a fair way from habitation for an unaccompanied child...at least by Mercanian standards..
