Egg looks down at the ground. The tears are coming again.

" You're both more than welcome to stay here and we can come back and you can decide what you want then."The tears come from Roger as he considers what you've said. For a moment all becomes still and chill, the sounds of nature cease and there is a discernable lack of the late summer warmth.
When Roger looks up at you, you can see anger in his eyes. "The men. They left me here. It was a year of hardness, the crops were failing. They thought the gods were angry. So they did what men do when they want to appease the gods. They had a sacrifice."
He looks down again. "Poor Roger. He was little and lame. He couldn't play with the other children. He wouldn't grow into a big, strong man. So they left him here to die.
"Then Roger woke up. He wasn't lame anymore and he could make all the friends he wanted."
