Recalling the old legends to which Bretwald refers, Corvin averts his eyes and (if he is close enough i.e. within 3m) he sweeps his sword horiztonally in front of him whilst casting Inflict Wound Quote: MA 17. Rolls a 15. I think that will mean a miss for his magical attack.

Laila fires again but is so frazzled by the weirdness that is happening that she hits the wall of the corridor. With a sense of satisfaction that dispels his earlier nerves Max sees the bolt hit home hard. Knowing that it’ll take him just shy of twenty seconds to reload the crossbow, he makes a judgement call and sets about the task as quickly and effectively as he is able. Heeding the priest’s advice he makes sure to keep his eyes averted. Calder swings his blade wildly hoping to score a lucky hit if the beast is near enough, and the brave soul does just that, scoring a wound that rakes along her arm. Holding his shield high looking at the ground Sten moves towards the front. Recalling the old legends to which Bretwald refers, Corvin averts his eyes and he sweeps his sword horizontally in front of him whilst casting Inflict Wound, yet his attack fails to meet its mark. Bedwere stiffens further, whilst Bretwald and Drystan wait at the rear, eyes averted. "Don't look at her, lest she turn you to stone." Yet poor Lucky, as he stabs at Elaine once more with his spear, is too close, and locks eyes with her. The serpents upon her head hiss with venomous glee as Lucky freezes. The venomous crone pushes forward, those who espy her from the corners of their eyes see the foul rage that she enters into. |

Undeterred by his failure, Corvin tries again with a flailing Inflict Wound He adds a snarling “Die foul hellspawn!” for good measure. Quote: Magical Attack 17 rolled a 9 so hit vs MD 8 or less for hopefully 5 HP damage!

Spurred on by the heat of battle around him, Max re-doubles his efforts reloading the crossbow. Despite being crouched to undertake the task, he’ll maintain an awareness of Elaine’s position should she start to move in his direction. |

Heartened by the party’s efforts, Calder continues to strike wildly while using his shield to block his eyes from the beast. |

In the chaos, it is hard to tell who scored the fatal blow on Elaine, yet surely she has fallen. Whether 'twas Laila, firing in an attempt to save Lucky, or Calder's wild strikes as he blocked his view with his shield. Maybe it was Sten, as he thrust his blade thru her midriff. Master Corvin's spell, however did go awry, while Max has reloaded. Bedwere stiffens and with a final shake, he becomes sad stone, outstretched hands, and a plaintive cry upon his face. Perhaps Lucky being slightly further forward than Bedwere is, well, lucky, as he can't see the fate that befell his comrade. Yet, he continues to stiffen, himself. Drystan and Bretwald rush forward, catching Lucky as he falls. Elaine and her serpents hiss their last, green venom and blood oozing out onto the stone floor, the venom hissing and bubbling away. We continue in 2.5 After Elaine |
