Post subject:  Adventure 1 : The Wishing Well

This adventure is set at the bottom of an ancient well where nobles and princes of long ago used to come, cast in their gold coins and make their wishes. All of this gold collected in the bottom of the well. When the well dried up, treasure hunters from far and wide set off to find it, hoping for riches. But when they reached the well, they found that the quests ahead of them were far more dangerous than they had thought...

Ahead of you lies the much-vaunted wishing well. Not much to be seen, all that glistens must lie at its bottom.

A well with a bucket at the top, tied to a rope, tied to a handle mechanism.

Who are you, what do you do, and what do you seek? Treasure most likely.

Over to you all...

The Blacksand pirate known only as Swan (SKILL: 11, STA: 15, LK: 9 — potion of luck), removes her flamboyant tricorne as she approaches the well, preparing to look down the yawning shaft, perhaps to glimpse gold at the bottom, though inwardly she knows that her luck is seldom so good.

She glances back at her recently acquired companions and says, "I hope no one is expecting to come back laden with gold by sundown. The way I've heard it told, there's been plenty of people here before us. If there's still treasure to be had, it won't come out easily."

'Well we're not going to find out by standing here chatting,' says Arkyn, 'so I'm going to light my lantern and see what's what.'

Arkyn lights his lantern and leans over the side of the well, being mindful of crumbling stones.

Swan comes up beside Arkyn and peers over as well.

"What can you see?"

Climbing down an old well wasn’t what Taradoc had in mind when he had left Salamonis three days earlier but the rumours said there was gold to be down there….so it was a start. There might even be enough to buy himself there fancy set of armour and spear he’d been eying up.

Adjusting the battered leather jerkin gifted to him by the same retired adventurer who had had taught him basic swordsmanship he stepped forward to join Swan and Arkyn as they peered down the well.

The intrepid Heroes stand by the side of the well and look down. Illuminated by Arkyn's lantern they see that for its age, it is in good condition.

The walls of the well are a bit too slimy and precarious to allow an easy climb down. The light from the lantern runs out before it can reach the bottom of the shaft.

What will you do?

Curious as to how deep the well was, Taradoc reaches down for a stone which he then drops down the shaft. Only after he’d released it and was counting the seconds did he consider that there might be some type of creature down there that might not like having rocks dropped on it.

Not much longer than two heartbeats is all it takes for a gloop to come back from the depths of the well.

Betala had been extremely dubious about the entire thing but hearing that the northern pirate Swan was involved had swayed her, now that she stood at the top of a well.....a well that smelt distinctly of mold and worse....well, those dubious thoughts had returned.

" None of us brought rope? We suck..."

She scanned the area for anything that could be used to aid descent.

'I bet no one's got a ten foot pole, a mirror and two large sacks either. I don't suppose we've missed the obvious, and there's actually a bucket attached to a rope at the top of the well?'
