Forward the valiant adventurers go, the mist so full that they can barely see their hands in front of them.

Yet a glint. Just there in the distance. Not that far, yet, ye'll need to leave the safety of the path. Will you be able to find your way back?

Seeing the glint and interested in its source, Max draws to a halt.

The relative safety of the path was a lot more inviting than the mist that shrouded the glint’s source but despite this, curiosity it’s gets the better of him.

Stupidly he supposed, Max still felt very much like the new boy and with a need to prove himself. he uncoiled the rope that lay in his backpack and looped one end around his waist before securing it.

Offering the other end out, he felt the need to explain, ‘I’ll take a look but I’d wager a man could easily become lost in that murk.’

“Yes that’s a good plan Max. Here Sir Sten, you grab the rope and haul Max back if there’s trouble.

Max what’s the signal? Two tugs or just scream bloody murder?”

Hoping that the other end of the rope was in good hands, Max steps off the path and into the murk.

Clutching hold of the rope as if his life depended on it (as it does), Max stepped forward into the mist.

The tendrils wrapped around him, damp and cloying and on he tramped.

Something clutched at his ankle but as he looked down he saw that it was merely a root and as he pulled his foot away, he saw it tear away. Rotten by the look of it.

There, the glint again. Max pushed forward and soon was at it. At his feet, a glint... golden..
